How Consume Media Embraces A Growth Mindset

April 29, 2022

A Decade Of Growing.

This month Consume Media celebrated its 10th birthday. When the organization was started in 2012, it was just two dudes and a dog. Now, Consume has 16 employees, a wide portfolio of creative partners, and has improved the quality work exponentially. But how did this happen? Most small businesses never live to see the decade club, so how has Consume Media made it this far? The answer: Embracing the growth mindset. Since the beginning, Michael and Leo have always had the growth mindset and applied it to the company, always seeking to learn and improve.

Here are three ways that a growth mindset has been ingrained in the culture of Consume:

The Desire to Learn

The first way that Consume Media has embraced a growth mindset is having the desire to learn. In the early years of Consume, we looked for any and every opportunity we could find. At the time, it was just two dudes, a couple cameras, some lens, and MAYBE a set of lights. We shot everything from music videos, to live music, to Greek life, to parties, and everything in between. A lot of the work we did was for free, but our desire to learn what it takes to run a video company was important to us. These early jobs provided the opportunity to learn, gain experience, and seek improvement.

Accept Criticism and Feedback

Another way that the growth mindset is seen is through the ability to accept criticism and feedback. In 2015/2016, the videos really started to see significant improvements in quality. With time and feedback from both outside and internally, the work only got better. Moving away from the music scene and more into the corporate, video marketing world, it was clear that there was a better direction to take the business. This shift helped continue the growth of the company and its trajectory.

Effort is Required to Build New Skills and Abilities

Lastly, none of this happens without effort. It has taken 10 years for Consume’s work to get to where it is today. That doesn’t happen without effort. The skill sets, clients, opportunities, techniques, and quality of work have all improved over the years thanks to the consistent effort of every member of the team. To see results, you have to put in the work.

No Signs Of Slowing

Every year we have seen improvement in the quality of the product we offer, but seeing that compound over a decade, you can really see how far Consume Media has come. At this point, we can truly consider ourselves video marketing professionals. However, this is just the beginning. We may be one decade in, but there are no signs of slowing down. We will continue to embrace the growth mindset, as it is instilled in the fabric of the business.
